One player asked about how does he know a torpedo has missed in another
post.

In the beginning when I played the game I found I could distinctly hear

the torpedoes as they passed overhead(that is, when I didn't ignore the

warning bell and keep pumping torpedoes at some poor already sinking

tanker...).

Now I've found a really neat thing to do, after you move to safe depth

after torpedo is fired, say "Spectator" or hit F5, and sit and watch the torpodoes go over your boat...you not only know they are gone, but you see from which direction they came from, bow, stern, port etc.

And the graphics are awesome.

If you haven't tried this, you will like it.
heh, when I hear the torpedo bell go off, I crash dive to 50m, then go to external to watch them go over me as well. Then I pop back up and return their thoughtful gift!

Just a tip I saw elsewhere that you do not need to dive to 50m. 20m will do.

Does the crew have to be on deck to spot the torps and ring the bell?

Definitely not. You will get the warning when at periscope depth or slightly below, when still vulnerable.

Also make sure to use your ears.

If you set depth about 12m you are pretty safe - worth lowering the scope as they go over you though.
