1---Quite often I get beaten in the campaign games by being rammed.
The ship does not appear on the 500 m. screen at all, but appears to be

on top of me and obscured by my own ship triangle?

2---Many times enemies at 500m appear as simple red blobs or circles.

Other times, a trianglular ship that is moving, has speed, direction.

Why the discrepancy?  It is SO important, in deciding whether to go ahead

Flank, pivot starboard etc.  A ship which is a circle has no real "identity"

since you have no idea of its facing, speed, etc.

3---What is the distance a surface ship can see a periscope?

Depends on rough seas, etc.?

4--70% of Uboat convoy sinkings occured at night, from the surface.  I see

no night here, does it exist?

Thanks
1: is related to your speed
2: is related to your speed and depth

At periscope depth going 1/3 or stopped and the you see triangles and not circles.

3: dont know

4: E:RT uses random weather and day/night time.
Triangles show up when the setting is on EASY.
Well, I did move mine to difficult setting for Mission 5-Imperial Sub, so
I know I can now move down to easy to actually see subs as triangles with

angles, movement speed etc.

But I am still consternated by several things, which do not make sense.

In Scenario #5, LPN, I start submerged, and for the hell of it have stayed

submerged at 1/3 speed in direction of huge convoy.  The DE's etc.

gravitate to me like white on rice, although there is no way they know I am

there, since they are over 2k distance, starting at 4k, and move right to

me like they know I am there.  That is ridiculous, and frankly, totally unrealistic.  These drones are tougher than any human opponent I have

ever faced!(in prior games like IW), they also seem to be clarvoyant.

It would seem that if I stayed out of 500m range, they have no reading on me whatsoever based on 1/3 speed, (I even used Silent Running, small

help that it was).

This question is not based on winning the scenario, but understanding how the game mechanics work and the information from instumentation, and what the enemy can and can not see or discern.  Right now, I have no clue,

and it makes no sense.  It also seems to obviate the "sneaking up" factor,

since the ships gravitate to me no matter where I am.  At other times,

inscutably, they move away from me after dropping charges(which are also

uncannily accurate, seemingly no matter what tactics I employ).

Can someone please explain this to me? Earlier postings in tactics and tips

indicated you are invisible at 500m plus at 1/3 which makes sense, The game simply does not play that way.  The drones swarm all over you like they know exactly where you are and at what depth.

Is this also a result of the difficult setting?  hummm. if it is, thats not difficult, its occult.  For having "primitive" sonar, these ships are extremely

informed and skilled.

Thanks
Check out "LFN Sub Mission #5" for tips on #5
No problem dude, but its not the scenario which has me stumped per se,
but the issue of how hunting and finding a sub occurs in this wide ocean,

and for the game in general.

Range, sonar etc. should be factors in locating a ship.  Per my post,

I seem to have a albatross flying over my submerged sub that's screaming and pointing, "down here".
There are certain things that make you visible.  If you are cruising in at 1/3 then they aren't hearing you, but they are likely getting you on Asdic.  If you pop the periscope up, you will be visually sighted before very long.
Once they have spotted you, or have been given your last known location, they will head for that location to catch you.

You can pretty easily evade them by first, get down below 150 and flog it away from your last known position.  Change depth and try to cruise in low ans slow.

Asdic works in a cone pointing the direction the ship is headed.  The closer they get, the shallower you can be and not be detected.

Hydrophones are a relative deal based on their speed relative to your speed.  It doesn't give depth, but it does give a pretty good location.  If someone has a visual on you, that memory stays around longer than a new hydrophone or Asdic hit.

Change headings often when you are being pursued.  Use the depths and run quiet.
Forgot to thank you for these tips.
They HAVE saved my hide several times now.
