Other than the extra aft tude and deck and aa guns how are the u-boats diffrent. On easyer campain and patrols you get the Viper is that because its better in proformance (stealth, turning etc)

Ok, I'm just doing this from recollections.

I think that the Germans had the technologically more advanced boats, with thicker hull width, thus allowing them to take on more damage.

In contrast - and this part I remember, the LFN sub turns like a pig, and the USA's conning tower is so obstructed you just can't "look out".

I also recall east saying that u boats are stealthy and quicker to turn but there are two types so Im not sure if one can turn quicker than the other, that has more stealth.

Historically the two classes weren't very different, though the type 9 is a much larger boat, about 400 tons heavier and had a much larger range. About 3500 nm more. Torpedo maximum torpedo compliments were different, but that's rather irrelavent in this game. The type 9 could dive about 30 feet deeper. The type 9B was considered the most overall successful U-boat of the war, while the type 7C was pretty much the workhorse of the fleet.

Historically the type 9s were difficult to handle compared to the 7s since they weren't as agile.

All of the subs in this game look historically accurate, except the LFN boat. It most resembles the WWII I class Japanese, which I believe were the finest boats of the war. Research on the IJN is difficult because there is not much available. Japan had multaple classes of subs, even one that could launch two bomber aircraft! If not for their horrable logistical problems, the Imperial Japanese Navy, in my opinion were superior to anything afloat, and could have won the Pacific War, surface or under sea. I,ve done much reading about the War in the Atlantic, both Brittish and German perspectives. One book I read by Admiral Ben Briant, described the Brittish boats as having inferior antiquated equiptment and ergonomics compared to the German U-boats. The Brittish S-Class was probably the best they had, and still used left over WWI 75mm Artillary connons as deck guns. The US Navy was short changed in this game though. I like the American DDs but the Argonaut class V-boat chosen in this game is 1920's technology. Please! Talk about an under dog. Come on. Give The USN at least the dignaty of a Salmon or Sargo class boat. How about the Arizona or Texas BBs. They were around before WWII. My alligance is with the KLM, but I did attempt to play the American sub mission, and got my glutias maximus handed to me. If I had a dollar for every time I killed my crew and I in one of these ancient subs I would'nt be workin for Uncle Willie :P Another good read is Iron Coffins by Herbert A.Werner,an excelent account of the German U-boat battles of WWII.
