Lets say for the sake of argument you have a destroyer or escort approaching you head on. You are at periscope depth, and facing the enemy head on, so you are on a collision course at lets say, 4000m Id like my fellow skippers to walk me through how they would approach the torp spread...including speed and settings for each tube. Curious to see what people are doing....
Thanks

Now, I'm still not that good at this game, but heres what I ussually do:
I set the torps to top speed, and aim right at them. After firing it, I fire two more, about 3 or 4 degrees to the left and the right. By then, the ship starts evasive manouvers, so you get an idea to the direction its going. If your not lucky enought to have hit the ship with the 2nd or 3rd fish, than just line up proporly and fire the fourth, an pray that it sinks it.
Well, there you have it. Good thing I'm not an actual captain, eh?
It only works about 45% of the time for me, so I'm up for a few better ones.

I'd go flank ahead dead on, adjust the torpedos to run at max speed, up with the tactical scope .
as the range decreases fast, adjust the course to keep nose2nose with the enemy vessel.
at ~500m (1/3 speeds ahead)::
> if she doesnt appear to break off her course; force her to by using 1 fish, (with a little luck she will manage to evade at this short range)
> if she appears to break off course without being forced to; well dont waste a fish then.
as she starts to turn, pivot the same way using flank speeds so you face her broadside, as the nose aims at her bow lauch the remaining fish (KLM/USN sub) or 3 more from the RNE sub).
If the first "warning" shot missed the target:
> fire a 5th from the bow (RNE sub only)
> pivot in the opposite direction of her so the aft tube can be lined up, when target is in sight shoot to sink.
(works best for 1 on 1 challenges, its a bit different if there are 2 or more engaging)

Which seems to be the case most of the time (more than one)
jesper, thats pretty much exaclt how ive been doing it....I just didnt know if there was a way to improve on it because more often than not, my first 2-4 torps miss...

You can improve you skills, when I stopped playing I hardly ever wasted a torp, remember the closer they get the less chance of evasion. (i guess its a matter of guts, chicken or not)
also if they gets so close that they will pass over you hurry to ~20m and back up to ~9m right after the passed you and giv'em hell from the aft

i'd wait untill it was within 500m of me, ram 4 torps down its throat, and then dive like hell so I don't hit it! >:(

Well, that works too...however, if you dont sink her, shes above you with barrels rolling and you cant manuever too well....boom. sometimes ive gotten away with that though....Id usually get it all lined up the drop to 30m, fire the torps and then continue to dive. headstart is good.

waste of time, at ~20m you are below their keel

Yes, but keep in mind that if it is sinking, it is getting deeper and deeper. I could stop and rotate my ship (if I try to turn I usually don't turn as fast and I hit my enemy) but rotating takes to long.
