....It was mentioned to me that Starforce copy protection software was packaged with ERT. This true? Its causing quite a ruckus among the SH3 folks, as you know....

Yes, the following versions uses STF3:

US Retail 2.1.3

US int. Gold

Int. Gold

People that doesnt like STF3 just dont have a proper system IMO, there are only a a "handfull" of haters vs all those that has no problems with it.

Nothing is going to go wrong with your system if you buy a game that uses starforce.. you may have a cdrom that has poor alignment or unable to read starforce protected cdrom disks, because your cdrom is older, but starforce is not what makes a cdrom drive or computer go "bad".

Some software may conflict with starforce, but those types of software include cdrom disc burning software, just exactly the type of computer system that tries to make copies of disks and what starforce is protecting against in the first place..

I personally use the USA GOLD version of ERT now, and I also have SH3 with no problems.

Yeah, so it can hurt my new system. Burners are used for doing more that pirating music/software

Chances are, it wont. Chances are, ill buy SH3.

well I dont have/never had any problems with STF3 and Nero, CDRWin, Daemon Tools... as Maxim said, some older and some of the unknown/unnamed/unbranded CDRom/RW drives are not compatible with STF3, but neither is E:RT and older Videocards ;)

Since you have a newer system I think its safe to assume that SH3 will work, for all that matters E:RT is running fine isnt it? :D

Purchased SH3, played a bit, in preference when you click on "AMERICAN" the characters are still in German uniforms up to and including when you "man the decks" The gunners are wearing German brain buckets?

Would be nice to have Officers and Crew in proper uniforms.

The game is alright, has good points and bad in comparison I would much rather use ERT. Then again maybe I am missing something as I said I am new to that game. JMHO.

I consider them 2 different beasts....ERT will remain tops for me i beleive, especially with the release of the new chapter...You can beat subs AND surface boats....But I will be buying SH3 for 2 reasosn...The pure immersion of it, (theres land, its real world geography, you have ship mates, you have a gramophone!) and because any Sub junkie needs a sim that realistic....

Well with myself and proper unifroms I guess it goes with being around Military too long. 8-)

I take pride in my Uniform.

Don't want to sound to picky but if one is fighting under the National Ensign of a Country the game should adapt to the uniform.

Let's face it, going to battle flying the Stars and Bars and the crew being in another Countries uniform just takes away from the realism. JMHO.

As for each game I feel most comfortable with ERT, SH3 is the first in this series that I have purchased so one could say that I am a novice and still exploring the game may be worth it in the $20 to $25.00 range?

You do have a valid point as to 2 different beasts. enigma!:

If starforce is not problematic, then why is there a utility on this very forum to clean it off?

My CD rom is no a RW. My computer is not old, I have the recommended hardware. yet it would take 3 or 4 (long) attempts to get the program to load...so I cleaned it with the utility and now it loads first time every time.
