Spectator view is quite good, until I'm in a sub at say 175 meters, and its. . . well, dark. Realistically, that is good. However I use that view while deep to spot depth charges falling my way. I know it should be dark, I just want to know whether depth charges are coming.

My offered solutions are that in EASY mode, make the deep water less dark, so that others like myself wont have to bother with the gamma settings or monitor brightness just to get a glimps upward. In HARD, leave it dark. My other suggestion is to have someone in my crew alert me to the deployment of depth charges. But only if, and ONLY IF, it is possible in the world this game takes place in that the "sonar" man can determine if DCs have been dropped. If he can, then some audible tone (or voice, which is used in MS Flight Sim quite well) could alert we commanders of impending damage and/or doom.

Well, if you turn effects up and music down (turning the music off makes the game insanely intense... and awesome! Also helps you hear effects better), you can hear everything. EVERYTHING. It takes practice, but after an hour or so you can literally itentify anything, from the creaking of an allied sub's bulkheads to the dropping of depth charges. A sonarman's confirmation would be nice, but you can hear it yourself and Tesseraction has other stuff to work on.

Try not to use spectator. First, its more realistic. Second, its more fun. Third, in MP... noooo spectator (realism). Real subs don't have cameras flying around them to try and see depth charges or torps. Again, it is also A LOT A LOT more fun, as long as you don't die too much :oD. Try and only use spectator for screenies. Its a hard habit to break - I know - but it makes the game awesome. Plus when MP comes out you'll be one of a few not complaining about the misfunctional F5 key. I'm not sure TAG is going to spend time on something making the game less realistic - not to make assumptions - I'd just turn up your gamma if you really want to use spectator.
