Tides of War

Occasionaly my PC displays a message that my pc is "in danger" basicaly, of being hacked. it picks up on spyware in my system. This pops up during games sometimes, crashing the games...you click it away but it comes back. I run Adaware and Spybot all the time, they have not fixed the problem...I run a firefox browser. Any suggestions on getting rid of this?

ignore it...those are just ads to try and get you to click....so they can plant spyware. Try switching to Bitdefender for your anti-virus and firewall - it does a great job of letting your eventually block all the providers of that particular bit of pop-up spam.

See, ive been told that before....Let me see if i can explain better, because im not sure it is an ad....

Ive seen the ads...the little boxes that look like windows boxes that say "you have been infected with spyware" yada yada....Im not convinced this one IS an ad,....its a bigger error message, and it puts an anti virus icon in my system tray....it then asks if you want to learn how to prtect your computer...if you select yes, it takes you to a microsoft page explainign spyware and suggesting measures to defend against it....

Ah, that's the "helpful" XP security system. Run your most current adaware version and clean it up. Run the free scan from Bitdefender, then install the Bitdefender pro trial (free for 30 days).

Would that systray icon happen to look like a shield? (MS Security Center) if thats the case simply turn that crap off, but opening SC from control panel, click "how SC alerts me" (wording (not running windows anymore)) and turn off all the AV checks.

Yes! a red sheild with a cross...that will be awesome if i can just turn it off...ill check at home...

Ahhh yes the Windows XP Security pack 2. I remember now. I believe that was the program that banned me from using any online game, go the security message, shot down AIM & Yahoo IM, and, well, you can guess the rest.

Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> (Sort by Name) Scroll down to "Windows XP Security Pack 2" -> remove the... well, the... oh, you know.

This solved oober lots of my problems with my computer. I know some people say those things help, but certainly not over here. Apologies if this wasn't what you were looking for.

Uninstalling SP2 isnt an option if you like to have just a little control over your own puter.

I reccomend Kerio Peronal Firewall (http://www.kerio.com). Its free for personal use and seems very effective.
