Boot Time And Copy Protection Questions

I timed the boot up time for Enigma. It's a full three minutes with lots of loud CD drive chattering along the way. Do others see the same?
I'm sure there's a noticeable difference between PCs, depending on CPU speed, the amount of RAM you have and the mix of other concurrently running apps and tasks.

Are you on the low end of the CPU GHZ totem pole? How much RAM does your system have? Are you running anything else simultaneously? When was the last time you defragmented your hard disk?

One last thing. Are you absolutely sure there are no viruses or trojans on your PC?

I run Enigma on a notebook computer with 1.7 mhz processor, 1gb of ram, disk defragemented recently, adequate free space on 80MB drive. Game almost always runs fine at 1200 by 1600 resolution.

Once or twice i've seen the checker finish it's work in seconds but usually it's 3 minutes plus or minus a few seconds. About 1 in 5 game starts it takes 4 minutes to decide it won't boot until I reboot the computer. In that instance it's 4 minutes, plus 3+ minute reboot of the computer, plus 3 minutes to boot the game.

The game will not boot from my external CD drive, which stays in one location.

If I try to exchange the disk where I bought it, and they check it, they would say it is readable, not defective, not returnable. Most likely a replacement disk would behave the same way. The notebook's onboard CD drive reads all my other disks.

There may be something special about the Enigma disk that makes it fussy about the drives it is compatible with.
