I'm not much of a reskinner myself. I might apply different numbers to some of the ships, or change the color scheme, maybe get rid of the camo on one or two.
Reskinning is a big thing on some of the sims, particularly the flight sims and train sims. There's a fair reskinning crowd on some of the WW II ground combat sims too.
Just wondering. Seems the textuers are packed up in the .EZV files. I'm suprised no one has pulled them apart yet.
-edit-
In a lot of cases, it also extends the life of the game by generating more interest. Same with the modding.

Player reskinning won't be supported in ERT, I think, because the game is destined to be a massive online game. There was a big stink in Warbirds and Air Warrior about people skinning the enemy planes hot pink or yellow to make them show up better at distance.
But I could be wrong.

Right, that would have it's side effects in the multiplayer area.
However, a lot of people play single player yet, I'd think, and will continue to do so. I may do some playing around for my own gratification. As long as the files aren't encrypted it's easy enough to strip off the textures. I've written programs to do it on other sims. The texure files are standard .DDS image files. The filenames and proper folder structure are right there in the .EZV files. It looks like how every other game is set up.

Actually you can make skins for the ships and planes and submit them to TAG, if approved they will be included in the SP game.. there is supposed to be details and a sample file on

Thanks for the info, Jesper. Mainly I'm just looking to tinker for myself. I'll play around some and also look into your link too. They probably have some good info there.

Just a side bit, for Multi Play which may well be impossible to do, but if paying players were able to send in a new ship number and name and skin etc, I am sure that would be a good selling point?
ie "HMS Rogue" sporting the Clan "{RKn}" siginature on the conning tower with a lovely 01 on the bow etc.
I play a lot of MMOGs and a huge selling point is having your own personal space on UO its houses, in Anachy its an Apartment etc.
Your own ship may be a way of using this type of sale item?
