I'm very impressed by many aspects of this game, particularly the historical ship models. It just seems a pity to me not to have a 'real' section in which actual engagements which took place in WWII could be simulated and it was royal navy vs Kriegsmarine + Italian Navy, US navy versus Japanese navy etc rather than these strange hybrids..

I enjoy the alternative history etc and happy to participate in it to some extent, but I'd really enjoy simulating battles of Narvik, hunting Bismark, Scharnhorst & Gneisenau channel dash, atlantic convoys, Matapan, river plate etc, etc

I can see you have lots things to do but I suspect a 'real' simulation section might appeal to a wider community.

I think the Il2 series have been very successful - I'm an avid IL2,FB & Aces fan--+ I guess the pacific one soon--, but I wonder if it would be as popular if they had developed another alternative history-- say one in which operation Barbarossa was cancelled and Hitler invaded UK. My guess it it would put off the real enthusiasts...

Anyway I dont want this to be thought of as a winge-- i'm really impressed by this simulation... its just something to consider in the longer term..

Personally I think games developers are missing a trick by not engaging adult audiences with more realistic games. There is definately a huge demand out there, but developers just opt for the safe money by producing stuff for the kiddies. There is a whole generation out there now that grew up playing games in the late 70s and early 80s as teenagers, as adults their tastes have matured and they want to be engaged by something more realistic, gritty, challenging and intelligent.

While I am happy to play the alternative universe of Enigma it is really the detailed ship models and re-enactment of naval warfare command and tactics that interest me with this game, the storyline is surplus to requirements and actually gets rather annoying after a while. Enigma would definately appeal to a much wider audience if it tried to go down the simulation road, people want a really good naval sim right now and the guys at Tesseraction could be the people to corner the market now and become for surface naval warfare what SHIII will be for underwater, but that needs a brave step outside the box.
