A good idea would be able see land once in a while, being out in the sea so long, land just seems to be a good thing to see.

really, that almost makes me sad, something of the appeal was the exclusive fighting at sea, and well, shore bombardment seems, well, just kind of lame, but amphib driving might be cool (crash your higgins boat into the beach-head and watch your little marines jump to shore

)

I personally think that having land in the game will add a bit of excitment.
I'm thinking......amphibious landings, covert missions by submarines.
Or how about......sneaking into an enemy harbor and just bottoming out during daylight......surfacing during the night to recharge batteries. (like in Destination Tokyo) and doing recon for your faction. (aka sending in enemy ship movements, weather reports etc...)
Hmm........wow maybe even East and the guys can put factories in the harbors (ship yards) and the enemy can mount a bombing mission against them. Say, the building yards get destroyed and players get sunk on that side......it would make the respawn time longer if the ship yards had been destroyed.
Hmm......land adds all kind of new twist to the game........I like I LIKE.

exactly!!!--- that sucks, I thought I'd gotten the whole torpedo-avoidance thing down, but now we have to deal with, "*ding* *ding* Sir incoming shore, 1000m, bearing 176 degrees."
**change in opinion**
But wait, now we can chase subs into the beaches and destroy them with impunity!!! muhahahahahah

Well..........if you crash into land.........then.......maybe you shouldn't be a captain of a ship?

You could crash 'into' a sandbank

Hmm.........
Yeah.....but it would keep a lone wolf from getting into shallow water to try to sink ancored ships..........
Variable....Variables........that is what makes the player think
Cheers!

Dealing with land is a critical issue that must be included in multiplayer, imho. Erich has given some good reasons why it needs to be included. Landings, blockades, shore bombardment, covert ops, leaving and entering to port, damage repair, etc. all require land as a necessary element. As we are trying to alter the map of the LAND portion of this world through our actions, we have to be able to interact with it............even if that means running into it on occasion.
