Tides of War

I volunteered on another post to try to piece us together a possible map of our "another world". There are hints in many of the messages thoughout the game that give information about this world. I have tried to keep track of the ones that I have come across and what I have learned on this forum. So far I have learned the following. (I think). Check this out and correct me if needed. Please add to this information if you can.

under American rule or influence - Faeroes, Iceland, Ireland, canal zone, Phillipines, Hawaii, Alaska, continental US, the same Pacific island controlled before the great war and Singapore (I still can't wrap my mind around that)

under German rule or influence - all of Europe (except Spain), Turkey, Middle East, Iraq, canal zone?, North Africa?, the rest of Africa?, Falklands, Argentina, Canada (I can't imagine that the US would have allowed German troops along the Canadian border), Cuba?, Cape Verde.

under LFN rule or influence - Gibraltar, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Guyana, all of the pacific islands except the few American ones? New Guinea, New Zealand, Malta, and hidden RNE bases in Canada, Brazil and N. Africa.

Russia is not Imperial, but Soviet and independent, bordering Germany at the Polish border.

Sweden (always chummy with Germany ) is independent.

Please take notes yourself and add anything you can to the information I presently have posted here. Any help is appreciated.

I disagree....in part.

Opinion: with the collapse of the British Commonwealth, those countries in proximity (there's that word again hmmm: ) to the 3 Superpowers, lean that way.

I'd say that Canada would be "annexed" by "Continental America". The Phillipines remain the CA's stronghold base but Singapore would "fall" with the nearby Commonwealth neighbours. The Pacific Islands south of the equator I'm unsure of. The proximity ( hmmm: ) of the former Commonwealth Australia and/or NZ makes that a little more reasonable. Singapore, goes to the Japanese , but is cut off cause of the loacation of the Phillipines.

The Falklands, ok they revert to Argentina as a territory, however I'm kinda undecided which way they go. Too far from either CA or German Europe, I have them slotted as a psuedo neutral territory. Africa is split from about the equator again, all south is LFN on the basis that the Commonwealth and Natives would have redraft the borders.

The LFN, I'd also give them the ports at Morocco and the Strait, hard to imagine the RNE not guarding the southern coastline. If Canada falls to CA then the only hidden RNE bases would be on the Pacific side - again, the further away from England the more likely for independent thinking. The LFN loose Madagascar to the Germans who promptly turn into a massive miliatry base.

Cuba I don't know, and the block of countires west from China through to Yeman also unsure.

But again, just my opinion.

what must be remembered before designing a map (and therefore projecting assumptions onto multiplayer) is that a territoy that is called one thing historically, may be much larger or smaller in the differernt world. Different naval and air bases may exist in places they never would have before. For me personally, the most confusing thing, and it has been discussed elsewhere, is Singapore. SeaWolf, your quest for the map is noble, but I must take any conjectures made off of it with a grain of salt

Uh, no. Read about the peace treaty of Brest-Litowsk (March 1918, it's real history, not just fantasy). The German-Russian Border must be more in the east.

Pioneer, some of these are directly covered in the notes in the game. Singapore is reported to have been annexed by the Americans in 1935, Falklands is a German base and the RNE had to avoid "Argentinian spotters" while transiting the cape. They may not make sense to our expectations of what would happen in the alternate history, but I think we will have to include them as indicated in the game and not assume any of them will "fall" until actions are taken in the multiplayer game itself. (I hope anyway).

rgr, eddiemac0. One German campaign note indicated something called the "United Principality" while the ship involved was somewhere off the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Is that North Africa under German control? I don't know. You are absolutely right about the bases, names, etc being different and had factored that in. Remember, this is ALL conjecture, so without more information about what is actually where, my conjecture is as valid as anyones. Hell, I take it all with a huge grain of salt myself. :laugh:

Right Ulsterman, I'm aware of the historic treaty of Brest-Litovsk, but in this world the Battle of the Skaggarak rolleyes: was won by the Germans in May/June, 1916. That would mean the Russians would have continued to fight until the Russian revolution in Oct. 1917 and I just don't think they could have done that. They would have been totally alone against the full weight of German arms. I see the same treaty location and name, but at a much earlier date, with different treaty results. The revolution could have happened sooner than in history or after the treaty was signed by the Russian Empire. The Germans would have been in a position to dictate terms, which was not true in history as they were still fighting on the western front in March, 1918 and wanted to free up their eastern armies to defeat the western Allies. I see no reason why they could not have established the border where they wanted. I think we need to consider almost anything after 6/16 to have been altered in this world.

Do this guys. You are probably all aware of this, but for those who are not, you can go back into an old campaign game to replay at any time by clicking on the list of completed scenarios at the bottom left of the orders page. You can also read the past newspaper accounts and briefings by clicking at the words Newspaper and Briefing at the top of the page. Go back and check these sources of information carefully, they frequently yield quite a bit of direct and inferred information about the alternate world.

Great comments, m8's! I think mulling over the alternate history possibilities and brain storming these things are a blast. I realize that any map I produce will immediately be torn to shreds by the differing views and opinions of others, but thats fine, have at it. I just feel we need to get a better handle on how this world is shaped. We will have to have a map before the multiplayer game starts. (won't we?) Maybe we can hammer something out that TAG can use..........or make them resolve it themselves before we create to much unorganized havoc.

I will post up a (lengthy) outline that we use as our guiding basis for the history. It is nearly complete through 1924 with the exception of Russia - that is a separate project.

Portugal - Neutral, but leaning towards LFN

South Africa - LFN

Burma - LFN

I believe in-game it explicitly states that Canada is a LFN stronghold.

The history line sounds good. More than that: it sounds possible, it could have happened in reality.

Of course it doesn't contain many details, but when you start to fill in details you'll soon find yourself writing a bookshelf full of novels just to explain your background story
