If I'm driving my Destroyer and set the engines to all stop, would I disappear off the sonar/radar grid of a submarine eventually (assuming the submarine is below periscope depth)?

yes/no
The sub will know your last known position, but it wont update the 'blip' till you move or it sneaks up to get a visual.

From what I've read, if you stop engines the sub will surface and not see you until you open fire.

Is that true? They will come to periscope depth to se if you are still there?

They say if you stop engines, they go to periscope depth, don't "see" you, then surface as if you weren't there.

That has happened a lot to me in campaigns to the extent that I now use it to catch subs on the surface. They do not always surface immediately and can take a few mins to appear, but in every case the periscope comes up first and then the whole sub a while later - at which point they usually get a metal fish to deal with from me

worked great on the dreaded lfn mission 6

Its the same for an AI sub as it is for you.
If you are below periscope depth and a surface ship is dead in the water, you only knows its original position (where it cut the enignes, if it drifts 500m then the blip you see on your tactical is 500m inaccurate).
Once you move to periscope you reaches periscope depth (sometimes you need to raises the periscope too), then the blip will update again.
The same goes for the AI subs.
If an AI sub moves at 2/3rd or move below periscope depth it wont know your exact position either, cause its own propellas are making too much noise.
When you hunts a sub you will often see it change speed to 0 or 1/3rds to get it's tactical updated.
The same goes for you.

Cheers Jesper, that hit's the nail on the head.
