Ok i put a question to East if we could have the option of playing against the games clever AI *rather* than a clock (or timed mission) by way of a patch? -he hasn't replied yet so i thought i would run a poll.
I personaly think the clock ruins the sp game, as in real life if you were hunting a sub you wouldn't expect to be given 30mins to sink it -it's 'cat&mouse' after all. If the sub surfaces for air after an hours play and you sink it with Hedgehogs or main guns is that not *more* important for gameplay than a clock?

Why put a clock on training missions when the real goal should be to destroy the target(s) -correct? Not trying to beat both.

I mean if i play a mission and want to make it last 2hours or 40mins -through use of stealth/gung ho etc -isn't that the players choice? and it certainly makes for a better game.
You of course know that you don't have to stop after the timelimits, you can keep playing and on many of the missions there are enemy that you can stumble across....
The only good thing I can see about the timelimits are "Mission Failed, Tanker 44 reached port of Hamburg(germany)" or something.
or

"Mission Failed, DD23 slipped past you and had free game on our supply convoy, now thanks to you our troops ran out of supplies and we lost the war, consider yourself released of duty." ;)
The time limits can certainly be switched off.  I suppose what we can do instead on scenarios with a very difficult event that needs a time limit is to send in an huge swarm of enemy to overwhelm and sink you.
We will certainly take this into account in the design of the next version.  Unfortunately the timer mechanism is so firmly entrenched in the current release, we can't remove it in a patch....sorry.

At least East is honest about it (unlike some dev's.....) -i'll keep the poll running and see how many would like this option in a future release.

East i can seriously live with more enemy as long as it's balanced? ie if playing a surface vessel more subs wouldn't make it playable as you would eventualy run out of depth charges (but then you knew that :)

Cheers and thanks for being open
