I Hate Nvidia

I made the mistake of upgrading my Nvidia drivers today. Don't do it! What utter wastes of space the people at Nvidia must be, to come up with drivers that fail so hugely to work properly after upgrading. If Enigma currently works for you, do not upgrade! Shooting is too good for these people. Drowning is too good for them. Locking them up in the brig with Tootie until they die of boredom is (almost) too good for them.

After hours of messing about with various utilities and RegEdit I thought I'd fixed it. I hadn't. My Enigma experience is currently ruined - CTDs all the time, I cannot even start a patrol. I hasten to add this is due to no fault of TAG, this is entirely due to the incompetent imbeciles at Nvidia who can't write software worth a damn.

Well, I feel marginally better for getting that off my chest. Now to try to restore my system to a working state...

[Edit] FYI, my card is an Abit Siluro Ti4200 128MB RAM. Abit used (I'm fairly sure) to reccommend the Nvidia drivers, but I note they have a recent version of their own drivers on their site now. Maybe they've got sick of support problems from poor suckers who've installed Nvidia's viralware. We shall see if this returns my Enigma back to its happy working state. Oh, and if I ever get sunk from this day forward, or even one of my torpedos fails to sink its victim: It's Nvidia's fault! [/Edit]

[Edit 2] That didn't fix it either. Basically, Nvidia has totally fcuked up my system for playing Enigma. I'm really quite upset by this. What had I ever done to offend them? Their mothers were hamsters and their fathers smelled of elderberries, I'll wager. [/Edit 2]

I allready talked with you about this, and I cant really think of any other solution than to hunt down a copy of the previous driver verision

Fortunately I still have the CD that came with the gfx card - that is my only hope short of a format methinks. But I'd still like to flog the hides off those sons-of-sea-dogs at Nvidia.

Update: I reinstalled old drivers from the CD that came with the card and the problems are fixed.

well you should try upgrade to the latest again skipper, maybe yuo have just upgraded too many times

And remember to run DRiP (I know for usre that the first one works on older drivers so you should grab that .NET update mate)

Buxton - just out of interest - which Nvidia driver version were you trying to upgrade to ?

And if you don't happen to have an old driver version around, you can always roll back the driver in the Device Manager to what you had previously

Hi Everyone. I'm new to ERT and love it. Just wanted to throw in my $.02 about Nvidia drivers-

I have a Ti 4800, running W2K, 1.4gig P4, 768m RAM. I was using the nvidia 52.16 driver and was having some problems with frame rate and choppiness on the more intense missions (U.S. surface 10a) so I came here and read a bunch of threads on performance. I implemented several of the suggestions, including "upgrading" to nvidia's latest driver, version 56.72.

After I upgraded, I could never get the game to load. Every time I tried it would start off fine, then shut down with an error message. After several attempts to re-install the game and and changing my video settings, I finally went back to the 52.16 driver and now all is good again. Well, I should say I can play the game again- I haven't been back to U.S. surface 10a yet. More tweaking with settings will help, I'm hoping.

Just a tip I hope helps someone else out. My next card will definitely be a Radeon, methinks...

I own a Ti4200, using NVidia Detonator 56.72on Win XP. Very rarely E:RT crashes to Desktop from external view, but that was by far worse when I used my old GF2 and early 4x.xx Detonators a year ago...
