Choppy Graphics/poor Frame Rate - Help !

Hi guys
Just got the game and immediately patched it up to the latest version. Problem I am having is that the graphics are running really choppy with a sort of shuddering effect visible when looking from above at the sea/ship - its as if the sea is moving past the ship, then stops, then starts moving again with about a secodns delay at each stop. I have tried all the usual things like lowering the sound to basic in DXdiag, lowering effects levels, sound levels etc plus turning detailed sea textures off. None of these have any effect. System is Win XP Home SP1, Athlon XP 2400 (2 Ghz), GF4 Ti4200 64mb graphics, 1 Gig of RAM, DX9a, Audigy sound, 1024x768 resolution - 32 bit screen settings, 19" Samsung CRT monitor.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....................

upgrade DirectX to 9.0b
set min and max swap file to 1024mb
upgrade video drivers
upgrade audio drivers
set audio hardware acceleration to basic
THEN if you are still having trouble - email your DXDiag to support@warfleet.net and they can troubleshoot it further.

Geez m8 your system is fine, cricky I am running it on a
P4 1.8
Gigabyte MB
512mb
GF4 440 mx 64mb - older drivers now at least 2 years
SB 128bit card
Win98 se
dx 9.0b
Its your drivers or something in back ground cos its sweet as on this system, with every thing cranked to max.

Yeah, that's SW, not HW problem.
On my 2600+, 0.5 GB Ram, GF4Ti64MB Enigma rocks.

Most likely the page/swap file (make sure you have it on manual control)
and defrag your drive(s)
turn off antivirus and other background applications

Thanks for all of the advice guys - I am still working on tracking down what is causing this. So far I have changed DX9a to 9b, tried two more recent sets of the nvidia drivers, manually set the swap/page file to 1024 (although quite why windows would want to use the swap file when I have a gig of RAM is beyond me), tried all in-game settings at low values, tried sound off, set sound to basic in DXdiag and defragged and there has been no change in the choppy sea graphics - I think its time I sent this little problem off to the warfleet.net tech support.

OK - after a brave try the support at Warfleet.net admitted defeat and don't know how to fix this. While trying to fix it I came damn near to a complete system failure and that , for me, is as much as I am going to take trying to sort this out. No game is worth this hassle, no matter how much fun it looks, and life is too short to waste on troubleshooting. Having got everything back to some kind of stability this game is off the drive and going back for a refund
EDIT: Ignore the negative vibes on this post - I was tired
and frustrated
and Enigma never did come off the drive I took a break from the computer
and came back determined to sort the problem out for myself

Here is information from our SUPPORT staff:
Well that was a pretty spectacular failure ! Did everything you said in the
last post - XP system restore off etc. I then tried to unistall the 4230
driver via Device Manager\Display Adapter\Properties\Driver\ Uninstall.
Seemed to go OK - rebooted into what I thought would be low res VGA mode and
checked the device manager\driver again to find it is still showing 4230 as
the driver. So I went to the device manager\driver\upgrade option and set it
to automatically search for the 5304 driver - it found it and installed it.
Great ! So I reboot, go and check the device manager\display adapter and the
latest driver is showing. Next I go to check the drivers are OK via right
click on the desktop\Properties\Display Properties\Settings\Advanced but
when I try to click on the Geforce Ti4200 tab I get a warning message saying
Catastophic Failure ! of nvcp - EEK !
Assuming it was a bad install I uninstalled 5304 - reboot - back to low res
VGA screen - check device manager - the 4230 driver is there again ! try to
uninstall via Add/Remove programs - reboot - install 5304 - check device
manager and it shows 4230 !!!
This problem is not ENIGMA related and normally we don't post support correspondence, but I feel it's important to note that ANYONE experiencing these problems upgrading their videocards needs to contact the videocard distributor for assitance.
The technology used in creating ENGIMA requires current drivers. We can't compete by creating a system that doesn't utilize current levels of technology and that is just a fact of developing for PC and for the players of PC games.
