A Player won't be able to do any more damage than the planes do now, the only difference would be the chance to use better tactics.
Has anyone noticed that this may be a hint from East that flyable planes are in the game?

I don't think anyone doubts that planes will eventually make it into Engima. I think the real thing to wonder is if whether they will make it into Chapter 2, or if a later edition.

Can't give you a peek at what's made the cut yet, we are still in re-factoring and asset creation mode.
Yes, the damage model will be all the way to equipment/area specific (communications, helm, rudder, etc.). We always intended for Enigma to be realistic in every possible way except for the gameplay. We wanted to let you get to battle quickly, balance the ranges and reload times to keep it intense and interesting. From Chapter 2 onward, even the reload times will be able to be historical (yawn).
Don't expect to see time compression - at least not silent hunter style.
Time Compression! Bah! Time compression is for people who aren't dedicated enough! Time compression is for people that pause the game to go to the bathroom, or answer the phone, or... eat.
I recall with great fondness the days of the Iron Wolves wars when we would spend close to an hour just sailing into position for the big battles.
I fully support not having time compression. Its a great way to emphasize distance and size in a video game. Plus it gives you a chance to hide and to sneak up on players that are oblvious. Its really hard to sneak up on people when whenever they get close to people, their time compression turns off. If that always happened, you could never suprise them. If time compression suddenly turned off then they automatically know there is trouble around.
Giving people large distances to travel will give them time to relax and get careless. Plus it will make them appreciate having to sail from point A to point B.
To be honest with you, I didn't bring up Time Compression earlier (although I almost did), beacuse it really isn't a major issue for me. I like the anticipation leading up to a battle and the tension it brings.
However, given the choice of having it as an option, I'd choose yes.
On another note, you mention getting into battle quickly, but I would like the option of departing the dock/subpen, or having to return to it in order to complete the mission. I've never liked the "return to port, sir?" dialog box, except when I really needed to finish playing quickly.

Yeah, East has done more than drop hints about that.

I had nother quick question about land (in Chapter 2?) but I wonder if this type of thing should be in another thread and if East really has anything he can tell us yet...
There is a thread about that here:

Land:
You think I woul have learned how to use the search tool by now....
Returning to port:
I like the idea of having to play the whole mission through as well. What I mean is I like the idea of having to choose or select what mission you are going to do. Plot out your course, and what you will need. Then having to physically steer out of port and haed out to the mission area, accomplish the mission, and having to sail back and dock at home. Of course that type of things doesn't lend itself to a fast paced action game. I mean most of what I just described is rather dull walking to and fro motions. But the tension and anticipation it creates is great.

even if you didnt want to use DVDs you could always use 2 or more CDs. its feasable because games like Microsft Flight simulator and command and conquer have done it. command and conquer isnt exactly new either. you could split the campaigns up onto three disks (1-LFN 2-KLM 3-USN not in any particular order) and have a fourth for extras. by the way i love enigma and i hope it brings TAG much money. cant wait for sink the hood!

I would prefer planes not to be flyable, at least not at this time. It may be a nice option later, but I'd like for this game to focus on the ship command and sub sinking (I'm getting kinda good at those, 90% of the time I get 'em first pass... I prefer surface to subs) If I wanted to fly planes I'd get IL2 (I already have CFS 1, 2 & 3 and FS2004)
The other reason I voted no is because I absolutely hate the way airplanes were done in BF42. For me anyways, they are almost impossable to control. One reason for this is I'm so used to my sidewinder 2 joystick, and flying with the keyboard almost impossable. I never use the planes in BF42 as I allways end up a KIA.
IM(maybe not so)HO, I think that this is a naval sim, and plane should stay out.
I do like the idea of scout planes... sounds like a great idea.
But I'm behind EAST and whatever he desides to do. I know you can't please every one, but I would request that if (or maybe that should be a when) player flyable planes come into the world of ENGIMA, that if we could PLEASE be able to use joysticks.
