OK OK :) I have a
CASIO fx-82TL S-V.R.A.M Calc

how in gods name do I program it now?

If somebody could PM or Email or post the very start to teh end I would be VERY Greatful as I have no IDEA :(

How old is it? because if it's older than me...can't help much, exept if you find the manual online. Been on casio.com seems like they don't sell it anymore.

Ok sorry Rogue for upseting U. Anyway do you have the manual? Can you programm it? Not all calculators can be programmed, depends if its a scientific/graphic calculators, or a simple one used in basics at school.

GameRat, if you read on the top of page 2 of this topic, you'll see that you don't need the range to calculate the lead angle. But the distance is useful to calculate the probability of hitting the target ;)
Hi Donoby, Yes I realize the formula you are talking about doesn't need range, but what I was trying to say is that ... I wanted to replicate the "Torpedo Data Computer" on a calculator, but I didn't know if it is possible.

Because I read that the TDC was a mechanical analog computer, I assumed that a new programmable calculator would be able to do the work of the angle solving. That is why I was talking about the angle on the bow, speed, range and other variables of the target.

I saw a picture of the TDC in the SH 2 manual (a friend from work brought one in) and realized what a cool feature it is. I still will not buy SH 2 because of the bugs and the way the developer dropped the game without patching it.

Besides that, after reading about the sequence of events that had to be performed before firing a torpedo, I can see why some people want more detail in Enigma. I am glad they are adding new torp features in the next patch.

What I would like to see in a sub sim would be:

When viewing in the targeting periscope ... you would site the target within the crosshairs. Then call out "Mark" as a voice command, and shortly thereafter you would get a verbal response from an AI Approach officer; giving the bearing of the target. Now the game would figure out the lead angle for the torpedo and then the player could dial in this value and fire when ready.

It would be great if Enigma had a TDC screen to view and see the dials move in real-time (similar to SH 2), and maybe be able to adjust them, but I realize this is not what Enigma has in mind. But maybe a dumbed down version would be possible.

I think Enigma is an amazing game, and if its true that the voice command system can also generate responses containing real-time information and not just generic replies to commands ... then this game has no limits to creating realism.

btw. thanks to all you guys making Enigma, Its a real beauty.

Oh its quite possible. Its simple enough math to do out by hand if you feel lile. Getting the the calucaltor to do it is merely an exercise of writing down the step correctly and telling the calculator how to solve for the right angle. Thats all a TDC was... a big calculator that could only solve this one angle problem

Thats what I am working on right now, well Donoby and myself are both working on it seperatly. He came up with about 12-16 formulas that deal with every possible situation you can run across. If you sit down and start drawing out the diagram of each situation, you'll see there are about 16 general cases. For each one, you can look at your heading, the targets heading and pick the right one, then just plug in the numbers. Also you could always use the info Enigma has to do this, the calculator bit is so we don't have to rely on pencil and paper and do math with shells are flying at us. When mutliplayer hits, we won't be able to take as much time or ever think about hitting the pause button.

Hey, I have been doing a lot more sketches trying to pin this down. The short answer right now is, its actually a deceptively complex problem. I have been trying to determine some generic equations but, I have discovered there are a huge number of them. With some sketches and explanations I can show anyone quite clearly, this isn't a straight forward problem. I am going to try a new approach to it and see if I don't have better luck with it. If that fails I'm going to have to do a lot more research. Maybe I'll get luckly and we can use ordinary differential equations or we'll be lucky and it will get into a trignomic quagmire. I'll try and hop onto jabber later on tonight when I get home. Maybe the time zone thing will work out. If not I'll throw some notes up onto a web page so you can see what I am dealing with.
