How do you deal with people who purposely move their ships into your LOF to make you hit them, and then accuse you of TKing them?

Wouldn't the AI stop firing if there wasn't a LOF to the NME ship/sub/plane?

The first time I read your post I thought you meant that they would purposely sail in front of your ship so that you would collide with them. That would be a problem as well.

All things are open to abuse, although I'm sure mob law will be the answer.

Kinda embarrasing, but I've done some TKing in Iron Wolves a long time ago. Image

Heheh, kinda funny how I decided to do it though. I was using the trial version, so my best top-water ship was a Corvette. I couldnt kill the Destroyers or Light Cruisers on the opposing team, so I cleverly figured they wouldnt fire back at me if I was on their team since they'd lose a great amount of points.

So...in essence...it could be considered, I was "frustated" by the big meanies that kept killing me as a lowly trial version playing newbie. I was simply returning the favor. ;)

Btw, later on in the game I discovered I could command the the AI Drones and used them to boost my attacks. Even later I discovered it was possible to log into the game many times with the same account, meaning I could mass many vessels controlled by me together. A little difficult to drive though. Image

If you want players to simply "see" the game before they start a subscription, there are ways to have limited camera views in certain areas.. or..

IF YOU MEAN< you want to them to experience combat, then these could be safer methods

1) Suggest they go look at the demo.. fire all the guns they want.

2) Multicrew by permission - Fire Gun by permission - Allow them to join as a crewmember on a paid players ship by permission, in addition the captain can turn ON/OFF any gun on the ship as he wishes to allow that player to use it, or give it back to AI control if that player's actions/inactions are determined to be less than desired.

3) Allow them to ride (in limited areas) on AI controlled passenger ships, or cargo ships with ability to use telescopes, binocs, and the like.. can you say TITANIC?

4) Prevent ANY player from ordering a collision course (using AI collision avoidance code) into a friendly unit, while the background voices on the ship are screaming "Captain! We cant do that! We would ram a friendly!"

That could cause issues when trying to refuel, especially with large ships.

Unless you bought a docking computer for 10k credits. - Elite ;)

Could you be more specific? There is probably a solution.

Sorry to be a party pooper but the drive a tanker/milchcow stuff is open to exploitation. It could breed the Enigma version of team killers.
For instance a few US players could get in LFN tankers and open up on their escorts (just examples there no specific dig at the yanks intended). Could tip the scales in a close battle.
What's to say that anyone in any ship would go and use "friendly fire" in a bad way? Say the Admiral of the Fleet is riding high in his battlecruiser when he decides he was bored. He could pull out his 15in and blast all of his friendlies if he wanted. I don't think tankers or merchants would make much of a difference.
