Theres definitely tactics involved in this game, no doubt about it. I too am a little frustrated at 10a of US surface mission. I guess the worst part is you're doing pretty well (launching off 3 salvoes of torpedoes) and then all of a sudden you're sunk by the Battleship >;( .
I think making it easier would help reduce the frustration factor. There should be difficulty levels for new time captains like myself and difficulty levels for your more veteran captains. That way you can appeal to all gamers (hopefully)
Still East - great game, and I'm pretty sure your improvements will make the game a whole lot better.

What makes the game so frustrating and almost ruins it is how the escorts know where you are from anywhere (really ruins the getting into position aspect). Plus running on the surface at flank speed and zig zagging to port and starb head on in a sub and they can get continuous hits with thier deck guns (like to see the human controlled players do this). Plus how torpedos go under escorts when they get close (is this right?). Seems like the AI is too reved up.....

Hi Everyone,
Checking in on US Surface Mission 10a. Man, what a butt kicker. I've run it about 85 times now and either I get wiped out inside of a few minutes or I survive long enough to see my convoy get totally splashed.
Thanks to those who posted tips on how to beat that mission and using them has increased my survivability by a significant amount of time. Unfortunately, the presence of a Battlecruiser reduces the chances for success to a very slim degree. Packs of enemy Destroyers are challenging enough, but adding the Battlecruiser to the mix and expecting a small group of destroyers to take em down borders on the suicidal.
Congrats to those who have beaten it. I haven't given up on completing the campaign, but my frustration level is steadily rising.
And where the heck are my Smokescreen Generators????

I too have a problem with the stealth part of ERT. ASDIC pings mean nothing and even running deep and at 1/3 ahead does nothing, exact depth for the charges every time
i thought it was a fluke, but after the 6th death (it was a patrol misson, one of the random ones) i knew something was up. And the HUGE damage the charges do, i mean half my hull when its a good 25-35 metres away?
can't be stealthy, can't take damage, iron coffin is more applicable than in RL.
i was very glad to know that the subs will get some stealth in future updates
But the AI gunners really get to me, and i can't remember anything being said about it.
a tanker, with a 3 inch gun, with civilian/low rank/not very well trained military gunners can nail targets better than my (supposedly) proffessional naval gunners on 5 inchers... it is just not right... the high tech fletcher takes 3-4 volleys to get the range while the tanker takes 1-2 (both of us running a steady coarse)
its just very disheartening when the most pitiful enemy AI is better than your crews AI hmmm:
The AI commanders are spot on, they are ruthless and not be underestimated
BTW @ anybody who may know: when can we expect the Aus update? (i love that new HUD

Huh. Aside from the Evil KLM Falklands Sub Mission, I've found the difficulty on hard to be just about right. Yeah, I've got a one-quarter mission completion rate, but that's more due to the fact I run out of playtime before going to work than because I died and had to replay.
I found the game good (with the exception of the EKLMFSM) right out of the box, and the patch has improved it significantly. And I have no doubts the next patch shall improve it yet more. I've yet to find enough minor nuances to irritate me, and even if I did, there's still plenty of fun to be had.
I am quite content with what I bought. (and upgraded with the patch)

Just wanted to mention that I find Single Player MUCH improved post-patch. Went clear through a campaign with hardly a problem with no missions having to be redundantly repeated.
This is WAY better. Well done guys. It has seriously upped my game happiness. Love the rest of the changes. All I can say is more...more!
Cheers,
