Hornblower was an order of magnitude better than Master & Commander. The latter was an entertaining film, but a bit too much Hollywood for my liking.
Also, C S Forrester was a far better historian than Patrick O'Brien.

"Apocalypse Now" just because of that awesome scene with the choppers with "Flight of the Valkries" playing. Though it is a rather mind screwing film.
I enjoyed "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson.
one thing that iritates me about "Saving Private Ryan" is the complete lack of Brits. We could have just walked on and given a little wave or something wave: . Perhaps if the Americans had asked we could have told them where Private Ryan was!

Hmm that is a very debateable point I find that patrick o'Brian is a far better writer then CS Forrester. As to the Hornblower which version do you refer to the film or the Tv films?Hornblower was an order of magnitude better than Master & Commander.
