I'm seriously hoping that someone from TAG will comment about the issue of realistic odds in missions like this.
Dude, they are making up fake designs for ships which would have never been considered under any circumstances in real life, I doubt you will achive much with your call for realism ;)
The important word here is not "realism" but "reasonableness".

Anyway, nice of you all to bring up my posts from about a half a year ago.

None of the ships are fake - they are all actual ship designs thank you. (Bismark and Tirpitz excluded)

Thats what I was pointing at ;)

But I guess I will stop complaining about them, decision to introduce them seems to be made already.

I got this one before my last computer died. I hit the oiler from some obscene long distance, then evaded until I got the mission complete. I never was able to do it in heavy seas- the fish got jostled around and lost their initial track.

I replayed this one and managed it without sinking any of the escorts.

I just headed towards the Oiler till I could see him and then fired a spread. He always seems to turn to starboard and head directly away so you need only a tiny amount of lead.

After this I pivoted away (fired another spread at him) and dived to the max depth and used only lowest speed setting, changing course a few times. Eventually I stopped and just watched on the external view as they circled around killing fish.

The DDs gave up first followed by the Flowers. I actually seem to gain damage only from enemy bombers even though I was at max depth.

Not quite as much fun as taking on all the escorts I grant you, but just as effective.

Checking your orders and resisting the other contacts is the key to this mission...we crafted most of the missions this way...with a couple that are truly just overwhelming to deal with.

This mission blows!! (I can say that after spending over 1/2 the day on it and still not getting through it.) And I have it set to easy.

yes, I have read all the posts.

I have tried shooting just the tanker and evading. (They always find me and send me to Davey Jones' locker.)

I have shot the cv's and the tanker, and hid deep. Only to sit and wait for 10 minutes with no enemy, then guess who knocks on my door? DD's!!

I do enjoy the game. (voice commands, graphics...) But the the only flaw happens to be one that interferes with progression in difficulty.

I do expect a game to get incrementally harder as you go along. But come on!

I think that part of it lies in the vague part of the mission brief.

SINK OILER! (got it!) GET OUT ALIVE! (get out of where? define that for me...)

So does that mean survive 5 mins after you sink the oiler,... 10 mins?

Or should I head South, North... for a specified distance, or to a certain location?

Obviously, there are no such criteria, the questions are moot. I just wanted to point out that I think more clearly defined success criteria may help a gamer figure out what he needs to do to finish a level.

It is frustrating because ERT is so good in all other aspects.

Well, gonna pound it out some more before I call it a night. Wish me luck.

You have to sink the oiler and stay alive for 15 mins. This mission is designed to be an "assassination" mission with you getting out alive and not "recognized" by the enemy.

Same problem here. I start with low battery in rough seas, surface to recharge air, dive ASAP to avoid the RNE bombers, sink the corvettes, and find myself surrounded by Alliance-class destroyers. I can't seem to kill the oiler, it starts way too far out to see, and volley-firing the torpedos is woefully ineffective. >;(

Help needed.
