IPB is quite more powerful than phpBB :P
How can one php written board be more open source than another ???

this one puzzles me since php is opensource and human readable the authors really dont have a choice Image IPB just isnt free for reasons like: better forum, better support, etc

We always welcome member inputs, after all that is how things turns out to the best results
Again, I'm not as familiar with IPB. This is probably the only one I visit. :)

From past experience, I've always had everyone recommend phpBB overall to me, in part for its easy "modability" ("modableness"? :D ), and I've seen that in practice. I don't know what's available for IPB, but I know you can usualy tweak the hell out of a phpBB board.

Support is the clincher though. phpBB tends to be very DIY, which can be a pain if you get something wrong. :)

so, now that the boards are merged, can I post in other ToW sections?
Feel free to do so Lego... (hehe Lego, I used to play with that stuff when I was a kid, you know that I am from the land where Lego was invented) Image

Why everyone recommends phpBB is because it is free, this board is commercial and NOT free. When you see 'free' IPB boards advertised, they are not this version.

IPB can be modified any why a coder wants, the source is "open source" by nature. There are plenty of "Mods" available for this board, the problem with mods is that once installed the ability to just push a button and "upgrade" the current version is gone. Tides just experienced 3 weeks of frustrations ( and expense) because of mods that were added to the old boards, where we could not just push a button. No mods will be installed. Add-ons, or officially supported Mods we will be adding, however they are not free either.

You as a user have been somewhat rudely, yanked from your familiar zone of comfort and thrown into a new environment which will take a few days to get comfortable with. This board is NEW to you, and people in general don't adjust right off the bat to new surroundings. This board is also NEW to the Admin's here at Tides, so tweaking and error corrections will go on for at least a month. Your input helps us as always (thank you).

If YOU are a die hard Enigma Fan, as well as a regular visitor/user of this site, please read on. All others may skip this reply and move on ........

Further Info and comments to help 'enlighten' Enigma Fans and regular/registered users of this site:

'Tides of War' is not owned by Tesseraction Games (TAG), we are totally independent gaming community. 'Tides of War' is the number one 'Enigma Fan and Support Site' in the world, which is our attitude, of course; we give the game and the community as much as we can in support and exposure. TAG supports this community with direct input, technical help and interaction with the members, where else can you get input from the President of a game company like occurs in this community? Kudo's to TAG!

The Enigma board is supported by Tides of War, with staff and the finances. Our general membership of Tides of War (ToW) donates to our support. In the last four years the Enigma Community has donated $0.00, which is no financial support at all. If the Enigma Community would like a totally separate board where there are no 'little problems and annoyances' then we will install a new and separate board when the Enigma Fans have kindly and graciously made 350.00 in donations. Skins and nice 'extra' features are not free either and would require further donations/support.

The Enigma Community has been disrupted hardly at all in comparison to the general ToW Community during our recent 'remodel' and upgrade process. We are working on Enigma first because of its commercial ties and interests of TAG. However please keep in mind the ToW Community in total is what makes this all possible, their support keeps our doors open.

In order to maintain the Enigma Community and keep all this going, we need to make changes. Tides of War have asked for Enigma Community support many times with little to no results. Support does not always mean money; sometimes it means more to have people's talents and time contributed, then money. In the four years past, members who have really contributed are: Jesper, Maxim and Time Traveler. These folks have contributed their time and talents on a grand scale, not money. Tides of War is most grateful to the contributions they have made to the community as a whole, we could never say 'Thank you' enough.

We need you! You have heard and seen that quote many times and on many sites, Tides of War Enigma Community is no different, we need you. If you are one of the really die hard Enigma fans, consider joining the team!

I'd like to weigh in and compliment the Tides crew for the terrific effort they put out to run a professional and well supported site. Tides has also offered to host single player competitions (with custom mission scenarios) among other things. Lend your support any way you can, if you don't have any skills or don't have any time, then consider a cash donation.

Thank you Tides Guys and Merry Christmas.
