better late then never on this one but ten cents anyway. one thing that irritates the living hell out of me is idiotic so called rappers or gangter`s dressing like 70`s pimps and redoing classic songs, and floggingthem off to an younger generation, given i spoke to my neighbors son the other day he was blasting out his music and i said to him have you heard the oridge version of that song, he replied in only an way an smart-r`ss teenager could. this is the riginal.... producing the cd it was off one of those latest hits cd`s. i swear an good 5 tunes on it were remakes in this before mentioned style... oh for me i like classical, jazz and blues, orchestral and brass bands,i used to play an b# cornet in one, piano and now have self taught classical guitar over the past two years.. even got my son (well really me) an new classical with pickups ect; for chrissy... though the partner feels its to big for him.my excuse he will grow into its size... ;)

have you heard of music by armik, its like this latin ,flamenco style it is what enspires me , lol i used to live near this food joint (my bedroom window was not more 5 ft. from the guests at their tables), but every night they would play this music and it just grew on me, not much choice really he he..so i started to try and play along much to the amusement of their guests, lol i often heard patrons over their dinner, say they thought there was something wrong with the stereo. which enspired me to then get an copy of the cds, which i then would play the exact one they were playing, yet wait an few verses into the tune before i hit the play button, he he, poor buggers it went on for weeks their music always with an constant echo and to top it the sounds only an guitar beginner with an portable amp could make.... they were giving me and my house mate free food within 2 months to shut me up... :D, but the music stuck with me and i still love the sounds on those disc`s..

Ronin - have you tried Ojos de Brujo ?? They are on the World Music scene, but very contemporary and very unique. Lots of superb tight flamenco and Spanish gypsy type guitar, but with amazing percussion and electronics thrown in, they do an amazing dub Rumba with turntable scratch and even some Spanish rap !!!, they are quite amazing live.

Way dead forum post, but since music is dear to me, I must post. As far as guitarists go, I'd have to say my hats off to to the late Randy Rhoads, and Dimebag Darrel. For Bassists, I'd say the late Cliff Burton, and Les Claypool. I'm American, but I'm currently listening to a lot of foreign metal (Norweigan, Swedish, Greek, etc) Mix of classical and heavy is my fare. Opeth keeps me amused at the moment, and there's tons of others most wouldn't have heard of. (Or would be offended my the names of the bands themselves.) Expression in any creative form rocks.
