I have never had problems with nV's drivers playing E:RT nor other issues. The other night i peaked at Gold using Version: 66.93 and it runs just fine with my FX5200 card

The latest 6X.XX series nvidia drivers are for the FX series and above only, they stopped adding fixes and development of the drivers for the GF2, 3 and 4 series cards with the early 5x.xx drivers. There is therefore no advantage in someone with a GF2 series card using the latest nvidia drivers.

nVIDIA ROCKS!!!
My new motherboard is a Nvidia board , it is one of the more stable boards on the market.
I have an Nvidia mother board too. I agree it is stable but the drivers? tsk tsk. I installed a driver that came on the cd (and on the most recent driver patch) called something like NVIDIA S/W IDE or something. Basically a replacement for standard windows IDE drivers I expect. Anyway, when these are installed CD Authentication on games becomes impossible. Games like IL-2, Port Royale 2 and Rome total war kept saying to insert correct CD. Even Doom 3 kept crashing on the last CD during install. I can assure you it wasn't pleasant finding out that this driver was the problem.

Jesper, Had to throw in my bit as well. :roll:

I have the same video card as Jesper, an nVidia FX5200 128meg card but to date will not run ERT, loads a patrol then after about 1 minute locksup/resets computer/quits to desktop, depends on it's mood. :|

My system: Asus A7V600, 512meg ram, AMD Athlon XP, running win XP Pro, DX90c, FX5200 128 with 5672 drivers, VIA 4in1 v453, latest SoundMax drivers.

Now I have tried with other video drivers (5303, 4403 & 6693) and sound acceleration set to basic, standard, & full, ert_fix.exe, no overclocking, etc, etc.

All tests were done on 800x600 mode but still no go, tried with an old ATI Rage 128 card, the ship was white & the waves/smoke, were a chunky white, but the game ran =) untill I exited after about 3/4 of an hour.

My conclusion is that the FX5200 will not run with certain hardware/software configurations, the next card for my machine will be an ATI Radeon, even then will be chewing my nails as to wether it will run. ;)

PS, I don't use video drivers later than 5672 as Silent Hunter II bombs out.

I use an Nvidia FX5200 256mb card with driver 6177. Running Windows XP with a biostar mb, and AMD Athlon XP2200 processor with 512 MB ram. Everything I have played with it runs as smooth as a babys' butt. I play mostly BF Vietnam, which is very taxing on your system, but it runs smooth on mine. ERT runs smooth without a hitch. I also use 1024x768 resolution.

Haven't found a game I couldn't play yet, and I built this machine for about $500 US.

Yeh, there has to be some conflict, either software or hardwre, but with so many variables, who knows, as I said have tried just about everything but not prepared to do a format and start again, what a pain! Image

Have had a lot of help from Jesper at Subsim here: http://207.44.164.159/phpBB/viewtopic.php?...c96726b9cd08b60

Couple of things I may try yet, but have to be in the mood. ;)

:roll: Image Hi Jesper, just had to let you know that I've got ERT running now!! The problem was in system.ini that contained:

; for 16-bit app support

[drivers]

wave=mmdrv.dll

timer=timer.drv

[386enh]

woafont=dosapp.FON

EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON

EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON

CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON

CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON

The problem is the last 4 lines, place semicolans in front of each and game runs great, who knows how these entries got there and why they effect the game so much?

Often when things don't go right I use msconfig.exe to untick various startup items or even untick sevices all or part to find problem software, but forgot all about System.ini till a little while ago.

Cripes, I'll actually be able to read the booklet & have a play. :lol:

Thanks.

PS. Will be placing new thread in subsim to let others know the outcome.

Just can't believe it! Image

Out of interest - what made you look at those four entries and change them in the first place ? and what significance is there in placing a semicolon in front of the entries ??

Semicolons are comments - its effectively the same as removing the line, but less permenant ;)
