You have the preferences set to " Easy ".

This means you will be seeen more easily too ..

In fact some missions are easier if set to ' Difficult' Read the early postings in the forum .

Hrmm, I guess that should have been in the manual "Easy means difficult, difficult means easy, up means down, down means up, yes means no..."

Yes .

Why did you think it was called Enigma .

Now you have deciphered it.

When set to difficult , it means the enemy have it difficult too , and often that is an advantage .

OK, here is a little spoiler trick I've found. I'm playing on easy, so detection is a bit easier. Steam over the sub , approching from the stern, and use voice commands to issue 'ENGAE TARGET'. Look at the range the display reports. It seems to be the depth of the sub, so when you set charges to about that depth and 'ROLL CHARGES', leading the target of course, you'll rip 'em open much more quickly. I usually get the subs in one pattern or less now.

Yeah don't count on this... 'feature' being around for too long. I'm sure they will put the whammy on this real quick.

That's what I figured they will do. I thought this was a pretty big bug when I found it, so my guess is the the patch, whenever it comes out, will fix this one. I've only tried it in single player mode, haven't even played MP yet. All the fighting in the SFC3 MP campaigns have put me off that for a while.

I've found the trick to submarines is to think of it like a bombing run from an aeroplane. You've gotta have a bit of intuition and a bit of luck for it to work, but figure a drift of two hundred meters from head to tail if you're launching at flank speed, and guesstimate for depth using hunches.

I've also found that subs usually drop to about thirty meters, then wait, then blow tanks and go to the hundred-twenties or so. So long as you look for froth patches, you can tell if they're rising or dropping, and if you're working from bottom to top or top to bottom, you can skip up or down and probably nail them with a closer hit than random ranging fire.

And remember, no submarine can stay down forever! If you're really frustrated, just circle the bugger for ten minutes, and he'll have to come up for air and batteries, and be a sitting duck for everything and anything. I found this especially useful against that damn Yellow Submarine at the end of the KLM surface navy campaign.
