enigma!:

This is starting to look real good. I can`t wait for the multi player to come out. I loved CFS2 so the Idea of planes is cool with me. I would think the FS aspect of the planes would be able to remain quite simple. Most of the aircraft of that period where very simple, most did not even have things like trim tabs or flaps. Most just had a stick and rudder, targeting systems amounted to a steel cross hair in front of the wind screen.

I would like to see also ports defended with long range arty , and long range patrol aircraft...maybe the Do200 or some such thing. The idea of working with a team to plan and execute an attack on an enemy port .... buxton:

WildBill, if I understand where the timeline is going, we're getting into 1938 and beyond. So you're talking P38s, Brewster Buffalos, etc. (The USN finale movie shows planes that look alot like Wildcats or Hellcats, but were probably Buffalos.)

Not exactly wood, canvas, and bailing wire flying machines. ;)

Yes, the monoplanes are all coming, but most of them that are in existance are shore based. Most Carrier aircraft are Biplanes. It is important to note that they are nearly all more complicated than the Swordfish.

Our Flight model will have realism settings, but it is intended to be a good to excellent flight model. We don't necessarily want everyone doing it, so it's going to tend towards the more realistic requirements (read HARD).

We have already set up 3 aircraft to be pilotable, but until the physics revamp is complete we won't implement any of it.

East - 'nother questions on the Carriers and BattleCarriers:

How defensible will they be if/when caught with their planes away?

This concept of the BattleCarrier is intriguing... do you foresee a BB or Cruiser being able to slug its way thru the airscreen and then into gun range of the carrier?

Or will the aircraft make our gorgeous ships expensive targets?

(...keeping Fingers crossed for responses: Very. Yes. No.) :)

Lets put it this way, if you were foolish enough to go into battle without a good sized escort contingent of Cruisers, Destroyers, etc., then YES, they would be a BIG FAT Target. Although quite heavily armed. They still maintain a pretty good selection of 6,5 and 3 inch gunnery for self-defense. Howard's concepts are really nice, I think you will enjoy them (once they are released).

East,

I believe that this case actually did happen in the Mediterranean (I think at Matapan) where an RN battlegroup including the FORMIDABLE surprised three Italian cruisers at close range. Before pulling out of the line, I think the FORMIDABLE opened fire at the cruisers with her secondary armament.

So far, I'm painfully impressed! enigma!:

Some questions I have though:

1) Will we get the option to have switch career paths? In the modern world, once you get your dolphins, you're pretty much set as a submariner throughout your career, but in the Enigma timeframe, I think there was a lot more flexibility over where you might be transferred after a certain rank. It would be interesting to leap from captaining a submarine to, say, a heavy cruiser based on your rank, not on your expertise with the ships. Although this would make things more difficult at the commander level given precisely that you haven't had expertise with the ships...

2) Can we have different alter-egoes for different campaigns? At the moment, I've named my captain after old "56", which works so so in terms of the briefing notes for the RNE (it's kind of amusing to see Yamamoto musing about settling in Scotland after the war, or choking at the taste of sake -- after all, he spent a lot of time in the US, which in this timeframe would probably equate to spending time with the RNE) but not very well for either the KM or the USN. (On a side note, will we ever get to see, for example, a Dutch or French commander in the KM?)

3) You mentioned having human players take over airplanes and be given direction during a battle -- are humans going to cooperate on larger ships? I've found that in some cases, AI gunners are better, but I think a heavy cruiser manned by human gunners may be a lot more deadly...

4) Will we see the Shimakaze?!

Thanks for putting up with all these questions -- I'm bubbling over with more and more and the more I ask the more I want to ask... ;)

And thanks again for making such a great game!
