Sfhand,
Some things are better left for discovery. Too much info too soon will take some of the fun out of learning as you go. I do agree on the basics though.

I would rather have access to the weapons systems information than a strategy guide. My preference is to spend more of my time developing tactics and strategy while I play rather than than figuring out torpedo speed (which I guess is approximately 38-40 knts) and such. I guess it all boils down to what the individual would rather spend their time on. Plenty of room for both points of view.

EFT-A, that is probably one of the better explanations of the general percpetions out there that we've had.
You've made it pretty clear that what we need is a "Tactics & Strategies Manual" not just an operations manual. appreciate that.

I think that would be a great idea!
Maybe through a third party vendor like the ones that publish gaming books.
Just my thoughts to make a very enjoyable game more enjoyable.
