Gold Patch Problem

install the EnigmasAPI.msi from the cd

I have a recently purchased Gold copy. The mini patch gave me the Bad Install message even though it was in a separate directory and firewalls, virus protection and spyware protection was turned off. I also ran adware, spyware and virus software before attempting to install.

In trying to resolve the problem I uninstalled the game then it would not re install. I got the game to install in safe mode. After that the mini patch continues to say bad install whether I try to install in safe mode or regular mode.

What should I try next?

I like the game. I've been day dreaming about a sea battle simulator long before there were PC's. Just my luck it would give me troubles.

download the STF3 removal tool from our download section.

Uininstall the game

run the tool

reboot

install the game

apply the patch

I followed the instructions above.

The program would not re install after closing firewalls and virus checkers so, intead of going back to safe mode, I opened Task Manager and used it to close almost every running process that windows would allow. After that step Enigma installed. Then i rebooted and closed almost everything in task manager, but I still got the "bad install" message from EPatch.exe.

Is it possible that I'm using the wrong patch file?

Nopes but it is possible that the program you used to extract the patch with corrupted the files, try WinRAR

I got the Winrar software and used that to unpack the patch (meaning no disrespect, it's ironic that winrar costs as much as i paid for enigma).

Now i don't see the "bad install" message, the EPatch.exe opens, pauses for a few seconds and closes without seeming to install anything. In the lower left of it's window I see a message that says "cancel". It does this just the same in regular and safe mode.

here's exactly what i see in the patch install window, during about a 3 second period, when trying to install the patch:

Initializing

Awaiting response

cancel

then the window closes, epatch.exe is not left hanging in the list of processes in task manager, it appears there then disappears.

OK there is one orblem here I think, when you try to apply the patch over an allready half-patched game it could give errors.

Does your unpatched game say ver. 3.0.0 or 3.0.1?

maybe the 3.0.1 is allready patched, i dunno we have to ask East.

I looked around for something that would tell me the version of enigma installed. Most windows programs show that under help and about. I didn't notice anything in the readme. I didn't find a key board command for version.

Can you tell me how to determing the version installed?

I'm liking the game. I've played a few training missions. I turned off the music. I don't think I deserve music when I'm getting my but kicked by freighters.

Do you see a version number in the upper right corner of ERT's main menu?
