Lo all, great thread, taken me ages to absorb what everyone's said tho. Me slow! :)

And before I start, nice post Vipor m8 Image

Here's MHO, if it looks long, just read first few lines of each section then scan over the rest

1. Pilot Tags

Tags with no clear name in them (inside visible name or outside) is BORING! (more below on this)

I'd love to see all pilots have a recognisable name in their tag, but doesn't have to be in first visible chars. But if people want to be boring and decide by majority otherwise, I'd want to atleast see the current system of having a registered tag that refs can check against AND have power to refuse unrecognisable ones to fly.

Like Temper said, if I killed Temper with a tag like Evil_B and I was TKFM_K the current usual fun of him hunting my ass, and vice versa and the laughs we usually have as a result would be non-existent. Or indeed of a great kill worth praising and remembering for another time, and the following respect that brings.

All online games for me are primarily fun because of the relationships you build with other players, whether good or bad. Especially in matches when the highs and lows are much more extreme, and for me atleast the majority of my AA time! I know for one that when more players change to an unrecognisable tag, the less fun I get out of the game. And the more likely I am to turn my back on the game and find something else.

Turn that away from enemy tags and on to your own team tags. THAT is why TKFM will NEVER (atleast whilst I'm C/O) change away from tags that clearly show who they are.

It's the case that some TKFM prefer to hide their name out of the characters that show over their plane, and only show in comms and on the log, etc. But that's good because you can still interact.

On a tactical basis, we also prefer to be able to identify our own for calls on TS. Sure this could be done with letters, but again that for me means a crapper relationship with the player. E.g. it's far more fun for someone to be able to shout "FFS Gelp you've got someone on your arse AGAIN! Lol", rather than "FFS K you've got someone on your arse AGAIN!"

That's my humble opinion.

2. Team numbers

I agree with several guys before, and control it so it can't be abused, however I've not really seen it abused yet, and I'm not convinced it needs control. BUT TKFM have been lucky by generally winning. So Control is a good idea for the best of other squads, BUT what's the best way. I propose the same as Vipor (darn it) but slight change.

Same number of pilots in both halves (can change pilots around to allow sitters a go). UNLESS both C/Os agree otherwise. (still use 6 minimum rule)

The issue is all around balance between the risks and advantages of two results:

A team fielding 7 or more GE, then forcing 6 v 6 when they're GB

against

A team losing a pilot and having to face a 6 v 7 half or even a whole match! eeek

Personally I'd hate to see both happen, and I see the 2nd issue happen more often, but of course the current rules ensure that a team isn't penalised by having enemy reduce their team at start of 2nd half.

That's why I wouldn't really want the rule changed, but would be happy to give it a go, provided C/Os can agree to be flexible. Personally if an enemy team lost a player, I'd happily drop a pilot to even it, no matter if he might be lying. If it seemed dodgy after, I'd just hate them for it and hunt their asses down in future Image

The only risk of a C/O being flexible in this way would be to lose any advantage they would get by having even numbers. Which should be none? hehe

Oh and Noodles, cc we have been lucky, but we have lost key pilots, like Yaff and Md and many more I forget right now. However, we've been lucky in that the rules have had the minimum pilots reduced to what we can just manage regularly. We usually get 6-10 regularly, but have struggled with nearly 5 recently.

And we've not recruited because of this, and because the supply is low indeed, and other squads need them. Bit of a crazy and yeah lucky balancing act here on numbers Image

Nice post Gelpy, but:
.Same number of pilots in both halves
This doesn't quite address what I am talking about. There were 9 players there for both squads. For whatever reason, one of the COs decided to fly 6 and sit 3. That meant the other squad had to fly 6 and sit 3, so there was a total of 6 players that could have been playing, but were not. That certainly does not seem to go with the spirit of the game.

Say the game starts and both squads only have 6 each. Half time comes and both squads have more players show up. Would they have to sit because the match started with 6? That's not good either.

btw Mr. Gelpy, when I was in England I saw your ass. Although I was very much inebriated, I was not impressed enough to want to hunt it. :P

I am quoting my previous post in so as not to mis anything then add to it.
Hi gang just reading through all the posts here.
This post i am leaving with the tone of respect and understanding of all the views.

First my Apologies to Warships pilots who showed and didn't fly because of MY decision to sit USHA pilots in the match and only fly 6. It wasn't the purpose of my decision to take a direct slap at any WS pilots. I hope that this post will shed a little understanding as to what happened in my view. My decision was to sit all pilots except 6 as they where inexperienced and we where up against a superior team of Warships. I took this stand as the main object of the league is to win and also keep points down for the opponent. I also flew same amount of pilots in second half. No gamesmanship in that regard, just 6 of our better pilots to fly against WS for both halves. Again my apologies for those who showed and had to sit. But I felt it was within the present set of rules.

If the rules change then as always USHA respects those rules and decisions.

But it is my firm belief that I made the right decision for my team given the circumstances.

I do understand the spirit of sportsmanship and I am sure that most pilots recognize that I am not unsportsmanlike in this game.

I would welcome friendly matches with all squads with as many pilots that would like to show to fly for fun, sportsmanship and comradery.

Again I respect the opposing views and I am listening to the different views and forming some new opinions from others views. I also am learning a little history of past events and some things that have happened in the past. Seems there is some bad blood here and there. But I guess i will learn more of that as time goes on too.

Inferno
Temp I respectfully disgree with "the spirit of the game" (which I enjoy everyday btw) as being the same in a league match. In a league match it is a contest between to opposing teams with an outcome of victory being the main objective. In that same match to which you refer, the opponent gained a pin on us and freely came into our aa, took out our aas and gained many kills as soon as our planes wheels came off the ground ( no runway kills that I can recall). So where would the "spirit of the game" come into play there? The opposing team did what they thought they had to do to win. Now if I had 3 more noobs taking off in that mix perhaps the kill points would have increased for the opponent by30-50 kills? What fun would it be for new guys to be killed all match long ? I have no complaint about being pinned "hard" but others have mentioned that aspect here in this forum also as being unsportsmanlike. And yet I have been called dishonorable (not by you Temp) and unsportsmanlike for my decision to fly the 6 more experienced pilots. My decision was right for me, right for the sitters and right for my team in this match.

Like said before by Tulla and others, the rules can evolve and change. And I offer these in hopes to affect a better change and understanding for all.

Now my hopes are that maybe we can start fun events and have split squads or 2 squads vs 2 squads and all chat on same TS during. Even though there might be language differences it could bind us together more and bring the communities closer. Like breeze said in a post before, who cares about the way people sound and differences, South .North, East ,West. Big deal.

I guess thats it for now. my brain is fried.

Hope this difference of opinion doesn't affect our friendships. And as always will adhere to the rules.

Ok Inferno, perhaps "spirit of the game" are the wrong words. I will rephrase.
.This doesn't quite address what I am talking about. There were 9 players there for both squads. For whatever reason, one of the COs decided to fly 6 and sit 3. That meant the other squad had to fly 6 and sit 3, so there was a total of 6 players that could have been playing, but were not. That certainly could not have been any fun for the 6 sitting.
That better? You are talking tactics, which I already said I understand. I am talking about people having fun and playing the game they came to play. Those 6 players were 33.3% of the players attending. One third sitting!!! I hope none of them quit because of it, had I been in their shoes I certainly would have considered it.

I will agree to disagree. :)

Now, this is a little off topic, but:

We probably have the best game of Air Attack we have ever had. We have almost complete control of it ourselves. We have custom maps, all planes available, only certain planes available, bombers (hate them!) , UFOs!, and many other options we have never had before. We have tools that let us deal with troublemakers. We play for free. We have Funevents 3-4 times a week.....

Why do we not have more people playing this game?

Sure, we have new people join every day, but it seems we lose just as many every day. Funevents have about the same people, the same numbers, at each event. Some squads struggle to turn out 6 players, and many squads have folded. Forever.

We need to figure out how to attract new blood, and keep them here. I don't have the answer, but I am hoping some of you bright sparks out there will come up with something. Don't be shy, post your thoughts, please. The future of this game may very well depend on it.

As for tags, hehe....who cares ? TKFM fly their tags..come and kill us!! Why hide?
Who does care? why not have the option to do what ever tag you want? As long as it's registerd. Again, your in a match, there is no "oh hehehehe, I shot Temper, Hi Temper, thanks for the kill buddy, I love those pink underwear you got on (wink wink)". This dosn't happen, its kill kill kill, a well oiled machine, kill whats infront of you and kill the next to win, thats what a match is, its kill or be killed period. No one gives a chit whos who and as long as I see that blue bar on my screen saying your dead I don't know who I just killed and could careless. Again you have to remember this is just in the matches. We have flown in teams with these tags also and its a tactic, if some squads (TKFM) don't want to fly with them that is YOUR CHIOCE. Again, your choice and you can do whatever you want. Image

I think it's wrong if you start dictating what your tag has to be in a match.

I'll have you know I get asked about my underwear in every match! ;)

Didn't someone tell you to make your tag -[Terror]-Fury? Don't the rules state you must fly a squad tag in matches? That's twice you've been told what tag to fly, one more won't hurt. You're a good enough player you can kill kill kill no matter what tag you're flying.

No, it was a sqaud decision we all had a pow wow and said, "cool, lets do it". Now to have to be made to do it by a non member or being told "THIS IS THE RULE" I think in my opinion is BS.
